Link to Joburg Media
Independent Media Platform for the Johannesburg Summit 2002
Dear webmaster,
If you have a web site which carries news from and about the
Johannesburg Summit (WSSD), we want to support your effort!
The Joburg Media project is not just an other 'WSSD media project'.
It's NOT meant to re-invent the wheel, we will not produce
content.
We are geared up to support and facilitate your outreach during
the Johannesburg Summit.
You can use Joburg Media in two ways:
- Submit a link yourself to the WSSD-related additions on your web site. Or Send us the URL of WSSD-related additions to your web site and we
will link to them (may take at bit longer :-)
Joburg Media will constantly expand and update a
special WSSD-related News Portal, helping journalists and media to find
their way in the complex issues and proceedings at Johannesburg.
- Use material from and submit material to our Media Pool.
Anyone (at Johannesburg or elsewhere) can add material (text, pictures, audio and
video) to our specially build database. Everyone interested, both you,
the media and the public, can use this material for free.

Please support our effort by linking to http://joburgmedia.net
We have banners and small buttons for you to use. A text link only is also very welcome, please use "Joburg Media" or "joburgmedia.net".
How came 'Joburg Media' about?
During the UN Biodiversity Conference in april this year it became very
clear the mass media can no longer be trusted to cover matters which are
objectively of great and world-wide importance. The conference was almost
completely ignored by the mass media. A small group of NGO's and media
people decided to promote using cheap 'E-media', to at least provide our
own channels to spread the news. Of course: too late and too little, but
everything helps and also teaches people to not longer sit back and 'leave
it to the media'.
- Anyone wanting to produce news about Johannesburg should also be able to
spread and share it. So we build a Media Pool.
- Anyone interested in Johannesburg should be able to find the real news,
not just headlines and sound bites. So we build a News Portal.
- In addition we wanted to produce and facilitate (internet)radio, being
the most accessible mass medium, which now can be produced and
broadcasted with very simple means by people themselves.

We got a little funding from Hivos and
Antenna helps us with bandwith and
technique. So we started, willing to work our ass off, spreading the word
from Johannesburg.
Your word! Please help and support us to do so ;-)
